Mentor Appreciation

Sometimes people are put squarely into our path for a reason. Sometimes that reason is Toastmasters, and many times those people become our mentors. Today I want to honor two of my Toastmaster mentors, and let everyone know just how much I appreciate them.

Over the years I have had many Toastmaster mentors and friends. Two names, however, are indelibly written on my mind and my heart. Those two people are Past International Director Darleen Price and Past District Governor Dave Alldredge. Now, let me tell you why they are so special to me, and why today I thank them for being my mentors.

Dave Alldredge and I belong to the same club. From the moment I joined Toastmasters back in 1993, he gave me on-target evaluations that allowed

me to expand my speaking skills. He convinced me to enter a speech contest as a way of developing confidence. And he encouraged me to become a club officer and hone my leadership skills. When I was approached about serving as an Area Governor, Dave was the first person from whom I sought advice. He was instrumental in my decision to enter district leadership.

As a Past International Director, Darleen Price has always been an active and visible Toastmaster in our district. When I was first approached about running for LGM, Darleen was one of the people I called. Her insights about what the job involved, along with her anecdotes and advice, helped me to realize that I was ready to take the next step in leadership.

Throughout my time in leadership, Darleen and Dave have continued to be both mentors and friends. They’ve provided insight, advice and laughter. They’ve been supportive, helpful, and kind. They’ve been the kind of friends who make a difference --- for a lifetime.

So, today I salute Darleen Price and Dave Alldredge, two of the best Toastmasters has to offer.
