What is Mentoring?

Simply put, mentoring is a way where those with knowledge share with those seeking it.

The person sharing knowledge is a mentor; the person receiving is a mentee.

Although not formally named, many of today's work situations are examples of mentoring relationships.

Physicians undergo internships. Companies have boards of directors and advisors. Quality boss-employee relationships also take on this nurturing aspect.

And personal relationships can be guided by such arrangements, too (although many of us have turned to newspaper and website advice columns!).

The benefits:

  • Knowledge shared and gained

  • Friendships made

  • The satisfaction of helping another and of receiving help.

With the tremendous gifts and wisdom of the Punahou Family, tapping into this great reserve can benefit us all.
